I will start with recent progress relatives to the integration of colloidal nanocrystals into advanced photonic devices and focusing on infrared cameras. As the field gets more mature, the design of devices also turns more demanding. Thus, it becomes critical to develop new tools to probe material properties operando. I will show how photoemission appears to be a suited tool to access the energy landscape of such devices under operation.
